VIENNA / STOCKHOLM, June 13, 2021 – The return of 15 Armenian detainees to Armenia and the provision by Armenia to Azerbaijan of information which will facilitate important demining work are welcome confidence-building measures, said OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde. “These important steps bring the parties closer to dialogue, stability and a comprehensive settlement.”
“I appreciate the valuable role played by the Georgian and US governments, as well as the excellent cooperation between the President of the European Council and the Swedish OSCE Chairmanship, ahead of the agreement. The developments are also a vital step for regional cooperation in the South Caucasus ”, noted Minister Linde.
Noting that fundamental problems remain, Linde urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to build on these positive steps by releasing all remaining detainees and resuming high-level negotiations under the auspices of the Minsk Group co-chairs of the OSCE and with the assistance of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, to find a comprehensive political settlement to all outstanding issues.
