Technique in search of a winning “confidence building”
Martyn Meade gives Technical the opportunity to register a ‘confidence building’ victory in the British Stallion Studs EBF Upavon Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury on Wednesday, live on Racing TV at 4.15pm.
Barely beaten in the Epsom Blue Riband Trial in her debut at age three, the Mastercraftsman daughter has since imposed tough tasks on herself without being able to put her head ahead.
While she failed to land a decisive blow in the Oaks in early June, she was only narrowly denied by Zeyaadah in the Group Three Hoppings Stakes in Newcastle, before finishing fourth in the Group One Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.
Technique has a lot less on her plate in publicly traded Wednesday and Meade is hoping she can make the most of the opportunity.
He said, “It really is a confidence building exercise.
“She has had a difficult season in difficult races without the conditions necessarily being ideal for her.
“I think a track like Salisbury will suit him. There are no easy races, but I hope she can build on what she has done.
Technique may not have things its way at the Wiltshire site, with Roger Varian’s training Lady Hayes also bringing a strong form to the table.
Kodiac’s filly was last seen second in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock behind Sir Mark Prescott’s Alpinista, who claimed Group 1 gold in Germany this weekend.
“She is an improving filly who is versatile between 10 and 12 stadia and a steep 10 stadia at Salisbury should suit her,” said Varian.
“It’s a competitive Listed, but she got into it after a very good run at Haydock. The winner won Group 1 in Germany on Sunday, so there is nothing wrong with this form.
“We hope she will have a good race. She likes to sink her toe in, so we would be very happy if the soil didn’t dry out too much.
John and Thady Gosden’s Gloria mundi is another drop in class after finishing seventh in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, while Invite has his first race for Andrew Balding after leaving the team of Marco Botti.
