If you prefer to do your banking in-person, you may be disheartened to hear of even more bank closures as Bank of Scotland plan to close several branches between now and June.

And Bank of Scotland isn't the only bank to make this decision- Santander became the latest high street name to announce a raft of closures earlier this year.

The Spanish company is scrapping 10 offices in Scotland, starting in June, as it looks to trim its presence in the UK. But it is not alone in moving away from face-to-face banking, reported the Scottish Daily Express.

Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and TSB have all shut branches in the past few years. They explain the closures by saying that customers are increasingly turning to apps to keep on top of their finances, but critics say it leaves vulnerable customers isolated.

The Scottish Lib Dems will vote on a proposal to call on the UK Government to adequately fund the Banking Hub network so a banking presence can remain in rural areas. It comes amid concerns vast swathes of Scotland will be left without banks.

But that will come too late for many Bank of Scotland branches closing in the next three months.

Six offices have already closed this year with the latest raft of closures starting on April 7 in the Dumfries and Galloway burgh of Langholm.

Customers may not be pleased with this news, and Bank of Scotland has seen passionate protest to its branch closures recently.

At the end of February, police were called after a group of protestors took part in a demonstration in an attempt to halt the closure of the last remaining bank in Barrhead.

Around 40 campaigners descended on the town’s Main Street as they cranked up the pressure on Bank of Scotland.

Campaign leader Sean Clerkin said at the time: “We occupied the bank and they shut the bank down so customers couldn’t get in or out.

“We were quite happy to occupy the bank, and let customers in and out, but the bank decided to lock it down and they called the police. Basically, we were just chanting ‘Save our Bank, Save our Bank’".

Despite their efforts, the branch is still set to close on May 21.
