CO Adaptive Architecture is a process-driven architectural practice focused on retrofitting our existing building stock to create environments that are energy efficient, climate resilient and spatially beautiful. We believe it is our responsibility as architects to understand the design of a building as part of a holistic system and there is an overall cost to every decision made. Our practice aims to reduce the environmental impact of construction throughout the process, including demolition waste management, material sourcing and reuse, operational energy consumption, embodied energy and future adaptability.
CO Adaptive Architecture celebrates its 10th anniversary and embarks on its second and third projects as an architect-led design build, with the goal of ensuring that what is designed with care and thought is built precisely as intended.

We approach the design process holistically, integrating cost analysis, carbon analysis and 3D building information modeling from the start of every project. We believe in working smarter, not harder, and we close our doors at 6 p.m. to support life outside the office. CO Adaptive is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Designer/Project Manager to join our team. For this position, candidates must have a graduate degree in architecture and a few years of prior professional experience are required. Strong communication skills and the confidence to explore unfamiliar territory are a must. Skills in Revit are beneficial, as well as knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, Bluebeam, and other 3D modeling and rendering programs. Competence in project management with the ability to organize schedules, delegate to other team members and communicate with finesse with customers and suppliers.
The role will be varied with equal amounts of design, research, construction documentation, department filing and construction administration. The position is ideal for someone who wants to see all aspects of the operation of a small architectural office.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and skill level. We conduct quarterly performance reviews which provide an opportunity to get feedback, set goals and review compensation. Additionally, we provide employees with an annual stipend and paid time off to use for professional development and academic advancement. We support each of our team members in the pursuit of licensure through access to resources, compensation for exams, and exposure to the range of experience required for licensing programs . We are in the process of setting up a full-service carpentry shop at our 3,000 square foot studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yards for use in mock-up prototyping and testing new fixture assemblies. An interest and skill in woodworking and fabrication is a plus, although not required.
Work in collaboration with other team members to develop a project.
Prepare schematic design and design development studies, presentations and drawing sets.
Perform zoning and code analysis
Gathering material and researching precedents.
Preparation of department filing documents.
Assembly of batches of construction documents.
Coordination with Clients and Consultants.
Summary sheets of offers, Leveling of offers + Negotiation of offers, Construction contracts.
Participation in site meetings, drafting of minutes and field reports.
Shop drawing review, RFI, issue tracking, change order review, payment review request.
